A JOURNEY UNVEILED
A portal. A prophecy. A magical journey begins.
Eighteen-year-old Lexi Guinel is a regular Canadian horse girl who grew up on tales of fantasy and magic. As a lover of all things geek, she should be excited to find herself in a parallel world, encountering elves and other mythical creatures. If only a tragic accident hadn’t brought her to Ayandoh. If only she wasn’t trapped there for eight years. Likewise, discovering her own powers should have been thrilling, except magic is forbidden in the kingdom of Gowerland. Punishable by death.
As much as Lexi would prefer to keep a low profile until she can return home, doing so isn’t an option. She didn’t arrive in Gowerland by chance, and she has no idea how valuable she is. A prophecy foretold her arrival and her pivotal role in saving the kingdom from the tyrannical king and his allies, the dark elves. Burdened by the hopes and expectations of an oppressed people, she must learn to master her powers while under the constant threat of discovery. That danger only increases when her fate becomes entangled with that of the bigoted and ill-tempered Prince Aeric, who obeys his father’s every cruel command.
Surrounded by secrets and betrayal in a dark and perilous world, can Lexi remain hidden long enough to confront her destiny? Or will King Ulric find her first?
Step through a crack, you can’t go back.
The tale of a modern girl in a magical otherworld, the Daughter of Venus trilogy features such tropes as found family, animal companions, slow burn, and forced proximity.
Diversity is an important feature of the trilogy, including a biracial protagonist, BIPOC and 2SLGBTQIA+ representation, and characters with disabilities. Note that much of A Journey Unveiled is set in a small town with a limited cast of characters. Representation increases as the world expands in book two, An Enemy Defined.
“Magic, elements, portals, and prophecies, what’s not to love?…With a combination of science, astrology, magic, war, monarchy, and a prophecy, this was as epic as one would think.” - Gumiho Reviews
"It's part slice of life, part epic fantasy...Lexi’s life in the sleepy Jalnarrah takes an abrupt turn as a tragic fate befalls the town. From this point on, I felt spoiled by the story. This second part of the book just does not let up, going from exciting development to exciting development...The ending is fantastic..." - Jon Herrera, author
“An epic fantasy novel where the modern world and a magical realm collide in the best possible way!” - Jennie Griffin, The Redhead Notes
an enemy defined
Deadly creatures. Inhospitable lands. The magical journey continues.
Five weeks after Lexi Guinel plunged into Gowerland from Earth, she is on the run from the irate King Ulric and the evil Selenites. With her is Prince Aeric, reluctant as always and grappling with bad tidings from home. Together, they must find the artifacts required to fulfill the Venus Prophecy and save Gowerland.
Working with Aeric doesn't mean Lexi trusts him. He seems to be cooperating, but does he have other plans? And can they find the artifacts before King Ulric and the Selenites catch them?
For every question answered, another arises, until a stunning betrayal unearths long-buried secrets that redefine Lexi’s knowledge of the enemy.
When faced with deceit, you cannot retreat.

about the author.
Amy Maltman’s first novel, Ride Every Stride, reached #1 on Amazon charts around the world. Born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Amy grew up obsessed with animals and Star Wars. Not much has changed.
A graduate of the Universities of Guelph and Toronto, Amy is now a disabled pharmacist with syringomyelia, a rare spinal cord disorder. She enjoys spending time with her menagerie of pets (which is never large enough), watching too much TV and too many movies (including Star Wars, Supernatural, and True Blood marathons), reading, and collecting Funko Pops. She channeled this love of fantasy into her Daughter of Venus trilogy, which she fantasizes about seeing adapted for the screen.
Amy is passionate about animal rights and the environment and dreams of opening a farm animal sanctuary. Boomerang Farm and Sanctuary would be named in honour of her golden retriever, Boomer, who died suddenly from cancer.
She once met Alexander Skarsgård and it was the best day of her life.
